I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself, for I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstances but by our disposition. It is because I have always believed that living happy should be the aim.
Today, I choose life and the happiness of my life. Every morning when I wake up, I can choose either joy and happiness or negativity and pain. Today, I choose to feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices; today I choose to feel life and happiness, not to deny my humanity and love that I can make but to embrace them.
Finding myself happy is not a big deal for me because I feel happy even when I'm simply breathing; maybe it is because of the positiveness I have in my mind, maybe it is because of the positive vision I have to see the world and its affairs.
For me, happiness is in every small moment of life, like spending a quality time with your family while having dinner or eating roadside panipuri with your best friend or drinking a cup of hot tea in a small tea-shop on a cold evening with someone you like to share your cup of tea with or getting an extra pocket-money from your dad so that you can party with your friends in a pub or chatting with someone you like from “Goodmorning” to “Goodnight” or playing with your pet dogs and taking care of them or let your fingers be caught by a newly born baby.
Sometime I hear people talking about their unhappy day. But it’s never so in my case because I have a different take to ‘unhappiness’. Some days are just bad, that's all. There’s nothing to be unhappy about. You have to experience sadness to know happiness. And I remind myself that not every day is going to be a good day. That's just the way it is!
Every day we may have plenty of instances when we might get angry, stressed or offended. But what you're doing when you indulge yourself into these negative emotions is that you’re letting some external power take over your own happiness. You can choose to not let little things upset you. You should rather go for what makes you happy and cheerful.
Happiness and satisfaction cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every year, every decade and, heck, even a century with love, grace, and gratitude. True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future. The more you think about the future, the less you enjoy the present. That's why I believe in accepting what is, letting go of what was and having faith in what will.
For me happiness has got another name, LOVE. Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential for your own. I have experienced some people comparing love with jealousy. But in fact, jealousy is a disease, love is the health. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater is the jealousy. But the truth is, there is only one happiness in this life: to love and to be loved.
Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and my resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits here in this life and the lives to come.
